If you're looking for top youth ministry ideas, youth service projects, or youth group events, it’s time to consider signing up your youth group for the 30 Hour Famine Event, a Christian youth event. The Famine is one of the best Christian youth group activities for your students because it’s highly interactive and transformative.
World Vision’s 30 Hour Famine has been powering youth ministry ideas and fighting the pangs of hunger across the globe since the early 70’s. The first Famine took form as the Planned Famine and centered on local service projects while encouraging youth to fast for 30 hours to raise money and awareness about global hunger. After that initial Christian youth event, the infectious passion caught the attention of students and leaders around the world who wanted to learn more about global hunger and play an active role in eliminating it.
In 1992, success of Famine efforts spearheaded by Christian youth groups launched “Make it Happen” - the theme that kick-started the U.S. 30 Hour Famine campaign. It called students active in Christian youth events across the nation to learn about the reality of hunger, make a tangible sacrifice for the hungry, and raise funds in hope to banish hunger to the history books. Youth group leaders were excited for the opportunity to involve their youth with new youth ministry ideas.
Every year, hundreds of youth group leaders, who are looking for new youth group or youth ministry ideas around the U.S., unite through World Vision’s 30 Hour Famine to learn about hunger issues and participate in youth service projects. After learning the truth about global hunger, youth group students feel challenged to be a part of something bigger than themselves.
These youth groups then engage their Christian and church communities to raise funds to fight hunger. By uniting around a larger cause, these Christian youth ministry students demonstrate their active responsibility in the fight against hunger. Fundraising efforts usually culminate in one of the best church youth group activities, the Famine Event itself.
Church youth groups, Christian youth organizations, community youth programs, and youth ministries commonly “do” the Famine. Students grow closer to God and each other as they fast for 30 hours! Youth ministry leaders can use activities and games provided by World Vision’s 30 Hour Famine engage youth group students in Christian youth group activities during the event.
Whether your church youth group is five or 55 students, the Famine will change the way they see the world. Sign-up today and engage your youth in a service project that educates them about global hunger, unites them to raise funds to fight hunger, and inspires them through a 30-hour fasting event.
